Hand-woven in rural northern Thailand, the artisans are highly skilled weavers and take great pride in the excellent quality of the work they produce. Each basket takes a full week to create.

Ms. Sutima Promme needed to work, so she learnt how to make water hyacinth baskets, which is a skill of the villagers in the area. Eventually she was skilled enough to produce baskets that were exported to Japan. After this success she gathered housewives with free time after their farming and daily works, and set up a group called “Chaophraya Handicraft Group”
“I set up this group because this work can make women working at home and be able to look after their elderly as well as their children. In the meantime, they can earn extra money to pay for some household expenses.”
