Khalil ASHA Fair Trade Handmade Artisan

The Artisan's Story
Khalil has his business in a densely populated area of old Delhi near Delhi Gate, where under his leadership the
company has grown leaps and bounds. He is a specialist in customised jewellery made with materials like Glass, Brass, Wood, Resin, Horn, Bone, Leather, Fabric, Glitter, Ceramic Beads, Semi-precious stones etc.

He began his enterprise in his home and employs women from the neighbourhood to make costume jewellery and accessories. Ten of these women continue to work with him after many years of service, with more women having recently joined them. These women work with Khalil to create exquisitely designed glass bead accessories and other jewellery. He also employs men to perform other stages of the manufacturing process. However, due to cultural sensibilities, women and men work in different parts of the premises.

When Khalil receives larger orders for his jeweller he outsources the surplus to other artisans who operate from their own unit. In line with international norms of Fair Trade, there is no child labour employed Khalil. He also offers good working conditions and a good wage to his workers.
