Wakami Artisan Story
My name is Reina, I’m 33 years old and I weave bracelets in Producciones Kastajem. When I was a little girl I dreamt of studying, but I only made it to sixth grade. With my eight siblings, we worked planting peas, zucchini, and cabbage on the field. I married at 20, and had my first child at 21. My husband didn’t like the idea of me working.

He believed that only men had to provide for the house, that women had to stay and care for the children at home. Wakami taught me to value myself. I can make my own choices and have a voice in my family’s decisions. My dream is that my children study, and become good people.
