Artisan Story
Babli is a young women artisan working with Asha Handicrafts wood artisan group from Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh. She specialises in polishing and packing. She has studied up to the 10th standard, but couldn’t study further due to a sudden financial crisis that hit her family. For a long time, she stayed at home, helping around the house, but she couldn’t sit by and watch her family struggle.

A few years later, she got married and her financial struggle continued. At that time she heard about Asha Handicrafts artisan group from a friend and was impressed with the opportunity they offered. She and her husband were planning their first child when she made the choice of leaving her existing low paid teaching job to begin her career in the handicraft industry. Soon she was employed as an assistant and learnt the art of polishing and packaging. She is now one of the very best in her line, is paid well and can easily take care of her 3 children. Babli enjoys working at Asha’s artisan group and is thankful for the regular and fair salary she receives. She stresses how this income, allows her to take care of her family.

Her dream is to give her children the best education, so that they have every opportunity to be successful. When the COVID19 pandemic hit, her husband also had no work due to the lockdown. They had no source of income during this time and soon their situation was turning dire. Asha Handicrafts stepped in to provide them with basic food and other necessities, including reusable masks for the family, thermal scanner and sanitizers for the unit. She is very thankful for all the help that Asha constantly provides her family.
