Anwesha Tribal Arts and Crafts
The founder, Mr. Sahoo, was very close to the tribal groups of Orissa, a state that has 1/5th of the total tribal population in India. His mission was to preserve, protect, promote, propagate and popularise the tribal arts and crafts of Orissa.
Tribals are naturally artistic and creative people. Anwesha was formed to provide support to tribal families by effectively utilising their skills by promoting income generation and employment opportunities; to provide better educational, health care and sanitation facilities; to encourage unity, integration and group feeling among the tribal people and fulfill basic needs such as food, clothing and shelter. Over 1000 artisans (approximately 300 families) benefit from Anwesha's activities.
The majority of the artisans who work on tribal jewellery and Dhokra are highly skilled. Both Men and women work on the products and earn according to their capabilities. Raw materials used for dhokra are recycled metals from scrap.
