WSDO Artian Story
Sita, aged 48, has been working as a braider at WSDO for 7 years. She lost her eyesight at 10 years old and because of the lack of facilities for the visually impaired she could never complete her education. On top of this, she lost her parents at a young age and was mistreated by her sister-in-law at the time.
Braiding is one of the skills at WSDO that is tailored to be suitable work for visually impaired women, who are able to create beautifully intricate braids by touch alone. They are extremely gifted women who are so strong in how they are continuing to work despite the difficulties they face.
WSDO provides inclusive opportunities for women that face lots of difficulties finding jobs or ways to earn income and provide for themselves or their families. They are also supported outside of work; being helped to find adapted lodging for the visually impaired near the office.
