The indigo batik patterns are a way of preserving and remembering the traditional tribal patterns while adapting them to modern tastes. Created by stamping hand-woven cotton with block patterns dipped in wax, then hand dying in indigo, the patterns are a way of demonstrating aspects of their lives. In this piece, showing some of the crops they grow, butterflies, fish, stars and other traditional motifs.

Ms. Surapee was initially in collaboration with the HIV Foundation in Chiangmai. The aim was to set up a savings fund for HIV patients to start saving 100 Baht each month. Each person would be able to apply for a loan between 3,000 – 10, 000 Baht with the low interest of 1 Baht/month if he/she has been saving for at least 5 months. There are many villages who have HIV around Sankampaeng District. The group gets 70,000 Baht/year as benefit and 10% is deducted and kept as scholarships for children from HIV families.
Most of the members are housewifes who look after their old parents or their husband infected with HIV.

When Ms. Surapee gets an order she will distribute the job to members who work at home. Before that Ms. Surapee has arranged all the materials for them, and will also check the quality when the products are completed. The products are sold at local various fairs.

Ms. Surapee has been working with Y. Development for 5 years, receiving orders for indigo toiletries bag and small handbags.
