Man Kumari is 43, and has been working with WSDO for 11 years in the cutting department. She comes from a village in the Baglung district from a family of 4 children. She watched her mum care for the family by herself, as her father left for the army and never came back.

Her teenage years also coincided with a time of much civil unrest in Nepal, with Maoist rebels forcing families out of their villages. And so, when she married at the age of 17, the two quickly left for Pokhara.

Man Kumari and her husband have 3 daughters, the youngest of which are twins. After an illness in her childhood, their eldest daughter became deaf and mute, and their lack of finances made it impossible to try to treat her. Nowadays, her children receive a scholarship from WSDO which helped to provide them with a good education.

With her work at WSDO and her husband’s job as a cook at the police headquarters, they are able to provide for the needs of their children who have now all been able to study. The 2015 earthquake left her home badly damaged, but WSDO directly supported her financially for the reconstruction.
