Assisting Artisans In Rural Northern Thailand
In Their Own Words

Country: Thailand
Year Founded: 1986
Fair Trade: Yes
Who do they help? The majority of producers who produce handicrafts live in the rural regions of Northern Thailand, and belong to the poor and socially, economically and disadvantaged of society. Many of them lack self-confidence and feel that they don’t have enough knowledge, skills and experience to successfully start the production and trade of handmade goods.
How do they help? Y Development provides access to both local and export markets, which increases selling opportunities and therefore income earning potential for producers. During the past 20 years we have been providing various activities for producers to improve their skills and knowledge, such as training courses on principles of fair trade, bookkeeping, cost calculation, designing skills. Our extensive training offers them increased self-confidence through self-employment. The majority of our producers are women. We also encourage producers to use environmentally friendly production methods such as minimizing the use of harmful industrial chemicals.
Special Thanks To: Wipa and her wonderful team for giving so freely of your time and experience. You are amazing!
