Gender Equity In Colombia

In Their Own Words

Sapia Fair Trade Artisan Making Jewellery

Country:
 Colombia

Year Founded:  1966

Who do they help? Sapia works with local artisans and a group of women, who are mostly head of household and are in a situation of social and economic vulnerability. There are 6 groups of women working in the production of bracelets and other products. Each group is led by an entrepreneur woman who is trained by us in the development of the product, and then they replicate the knowledge to their co-workers.

How do they help?  When women are able to generate income, they invest in their children. They bring their friends and family into the business, become empowered leaders and create more prosperous communities.

We want to promote gender equity and alleviate poverty using handcrafts as a tool for change.
